Intel prepares to launch the second wave of Atom "Bay Trail-T" products for Android and Windows 8.1 tablets. New Atom Z37x5 lineup will boost graphics performance by as much as 16%, and offer greater variety of SKUs, from budget-oriented Z3735E/F/G and up to the new flagship Z3795. The lineup will be comprised of at least 9 different models, most of which were planned to launch this quarter or at the beginning of the second quarter. We now have detailed specifications of seven SKUs, including Atom Z3735D, Z3735E, Z3745, Z3745D, Z3775, Z3775D and Z3795.

 

All Atom Z37x5 chips are built on Silvermont (22nm) microarchitecture, and incorporate 4 CPU cores, 2 MB of L2 cache, and Ivy Bridge-based graphics with 4 execution units. The CPU cores support SIMD instructions up to SSE4 / AES, and Burst technology. The processors integrate Image signal processors, Audio engine, storage and USB interfaces, and a number of legacy interfaces. Remaining characteristics of Atoms are SKU dependent.

 

On the high-end of the Z37x5 line we have the Atom Z3795. This chip is clocked at 1.6 GHz, and has the maximum burst frequency of 2.39 GHz. The runner-up Z3775 has the same Burst frequency, but the base frequency was lowered to 1.46 GHz. The last non-"D" processor, Atom Z3745, has the base and turbo frequencies lowered to 1.33 GHz and 1.86 GHz respectively. The Z3795, Z3775 and Z3745 feature a dual-channel memory controller, and support up to 4 GB of LPDDR3-1066 memory. The GPU on these chips runs at 311 MHz. Compared to original Z37x0 SKUs, the maximum graphics frequency was increased to 778 MHz, or by 16%. The maximum supported display resolution on non-"D" Atoms is 2500x1600. The processors work with Windows 8.1, and the Z3775 and Z3745 will be also shipped with Android operating system.

 

Atom Z3775D and Z3745D have approximately the same clock speeds as the non-"D" parts, however they come with a single-channel memory controller and 1900x1200 maximum display resolution. The processors support up to 2 GB of DDR3L-RS 1333 memory, and they will be available with Windows 8.1 and Android OS. The third "D" chip, Atom Z3735D, has slower graphics and lower burst frequency for 4 cores than the Z3745D. The maximum Burst speed for two cores on this SKU was not changed. The Z3735D will be supported only by Android OS.

 

Atom Z3735E is a new budget chip with a few features crippled. Like the Z3735D, it runs at up to 1.58GHz or 1.83 GHz depending on the number of active cores. The width of a single memory channel was reduced from 64 bits to 32 bits, as a result the processor supports only 1 GB of RAM. The maximum supported display resolution of the Z3735E is 1200x800. The processor will be used only in Android devices.
